LGST 551 Introduction to Legislative Drafting
LGST 551 introduces students to legislative drafting. Students will develop drafting skills and familiarity with approaches to legislative drafting typical in common law jurisdictions. This course focuses on the nature of legislation and the steps in preparing legislation in common law jurisdictions, using legislative punctuation and grammar, and drafting legislative sentences.

LGST 553 Instructions and Compliance
LGST 553 follows from LGST 551: Introduction to Legislative Drafting. Students will continue to develop their drafting skills and their familiarity with approaches to legislative drafting typical in common law jurisdictions. This course focuses on reviewing instructions for proposed legislation, examining the stages in the preparation of legislation, working with rules of interpretation and interpretation acts, and developing effective legislative styles.

LGST 555 Structuring Legislation I
LGST 555 Following on from the first two courses in the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Legislative Drafting, students in LGST 555 will continue to develop their drafting skills and their familiarity with approaches to legislative drafting that are typical in common law jurisdictions. This course focuses on working within the limits of constitutional and human rights; structuring legislation and developing legislative plans; preliminary provisions, including titles, preambles, commencement and duration clauses, interpretation provisions, purpose clauses, and application provisions.

LGST 557 Structuring Legislation II
LGST 557 Following on from the first three courses in the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Legislative Drafting, students will rely upon the foundation of drafting skills they have developed and will pursue more complex studies linking various elements of legislative drafting into a more holistic legislative framework. This course will focus upon the drafting of final provisions; delegating powers; repeal and amendment; saving and transitional provisions; drafting schedules; and particular cases including compliance provisions and subsidiary legislation.

LGST 559 Legislative Drafting Project
LGST 559 Following on from the first four courses in the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Legislative Drafting, students will rely upon the foundation of drafting skills they have developed and will demonstrate the ability to link various elements of legislative drafting into a comprehensive legislative framework. This course will allow the student to implement the principles of good drafting they have learned in a practical project taken from a law reform initiative.
