Since 1996, I have been serving as Parliamentary Counsel for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta which involves providing legal and procedural advice to the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly. My position involves extensive work in the field of legislative drafting, namely, the preparation of Private Members' Bills and Private Bills, and amendments to Bills, motions and the Standing Orders of the Assembly. As a Table Officer, I am present during sittings of the Assembly and Committee of the Whole and provide procedural support to the Presiding Officers of the House. I also serve as in-house counsel and advise on a wide range of matters including employment law, access to information and general corporate and commercial matters. Prior to joining the Legislative Assembly, I practiced corporate commercial law with a national firm in Calgary and served as a legislative advisor with the Government of Alberta. One of my recent career highlights was participating in a CIDA-funded initiative as Canadian Legislative Advisor to the Regional Legislative Capacity Enhancement Program for the Regional Legislative Assembly of Muslim Mindanao, a developing region of the Philippines..
